Santa Fe Bench Style Tournament (results)

this last weekend, lvbp attended a bench style tournament hosted by ABQ bike polo in Santa Fe, NM.
we did terrible. out of the 6 teams, we came in 5th. the only team we beat consisted of a majority of players that barely just started playing.

here are the scores from the weekend.

as you can see, the only team we had an even remotely close game with was with our close friends from ABQ. we had a decent chance of winning that game actually. however that was all flushed down the toilet when Lawyer Chris decided to try to make an important call (terrible call by the way). we were tied at the half, but we ended up losing by two. it was a really fun game, until all the fun was sucked out of it by someone who thought he knew anything about bench subs. thanks chris. but it's my fault just as much as chris'. i was team captain but i let his call slide through. terrible.

can't blame our terrible performance on just one person though.
we all played terrible and there was just no chemistry between our team.
there was a time when we had 4 players on the rink due to just sheer confusion and the bench being unprepared. terrible.

we even started forgetting the fundamentals of basic polo.
here's a short clip of us dropping coverage on an opposing player, just to try to chase down someone with the ball. texas open backhand shot terrible.

thankfully, the two ryans and i were able to show off and be impressive in the post-tournament pick up games,
so at least the vegas club didn't look like THAT big of a joke.

we have a lot to learn.

until next time, ABQ.
